Match report and highlights from the Warwickshire match Sat/Sun 23rd & 24th September 2006

Looking at last seasons results against Warwickshire we could feel quietly confident of a reasonable result. Last year we ended the weekend with a 22-14 victory. This time the Ladies A for Warwickshire will be strengthened by the presence of Trina Gulliver and Clare Bywaters who last year missed the game due a clash with a WDF tournament and Warwickshire have the advantage of their Home venue. Kent suffer some big losses as Bob Linton stands down to give his suffering leg a rest, Scott Marsh leaves the squad for new horizons, also Russ Herbert, Chris Willard, Andy Howe, Chris Austen & Sally Cridland conclude a list of players that for one reason or another are not currently in the squad but contributed to last years result. However, the introduction of Marlene Badger & Lynne Morrison and the return of Andy Fordham, Paul Dawkins & Steve Douglas will help Kent to maintain the hard earned standards achieved last year.    Game on ! !

Ladies B

Ged Carney opened up for Kent and the first game of the season got underway with a 25 dart win for Ged. Pat Thornton took the next leg keeping the pressure on.    Ged won the next 2 legs giving Kent the 1st point of the weekend. Ged's Average 19.45 against a strong 18.50 opposition. Well played Ged.

Lisa Behan won 3-0 against evenly matched Clare Dickin. 1st leg was all over in 20 darts finishing 80 in 2 darts.  Average should have been much higher but 2nd leg proved tough to conclude. Lisa's average 16.89. Well done Lisa.

Julie Scott beat Mo Jennings 3-1. After a steady paced 1st leg, Julie's 2nd leg stunned Mo with a, 24 darter ending in a 106 out shot. 4th leg concluded the point in 25 darts. Average 16.62. Great finish Julie.

Jakki Ellis lost 3-2 to Helen Rigg, the game see sawed from 2-0 down to 2-2 and ended with lots of chances dashed by both players until Helen's dart eventually found the home sides 1st point.

Emma Little lost 3-2  in one off match which on reflection I'm sure Emma would agree she would normally have won. Head up Emma, you can come out of this better and stronger.

Lynne Morrison (aka Jungle) joins the squad at the deep end facing tough opponent Betty Sinnett. Lynne was punished for missing her double in the 1st leg, but left no doubt about who was in command, as the next 3 legs sent Lynne to victory 3-1. Lynne's victory leg was in 20 darts as Betty Sinnett just missed an 18 dart finish. Great game Lynne, can't think of a better welcome than Lady of the Match. Average 20.91

Ladies B 2 - 4 to Kent

Men's B

Gary Ellis, first on, brought back a clean 3-0 victory over Dave Dunn. Convincing victory, large as you like.  Well played Gary. Average 27.83

Paul McDine lost 3-2 playing evenly matched Mick Gorst. It's hard to see how Paul lost this one as the stats were all in Paul's favour. 13.79 tons against 11.20 and Paul's average was 24.76 against 24.28. Two 18 darters by Mick in the 3rd and 5th legs with the throw advantage didn't help. Unlucky Paul.

Luke Ellis beat Cliff Mancini 3-1. Luke hit great form on the final leg hitting a maximum and sealing the win in 17 darts. Luke's average 22.34.

Paul Farnes comfortably won 3-1 with little pressure from opponent John Brooks. Paul's average 21.38.

Steve Douglas won 3-2 on his return debut. Always looking the stronger player Steve was 2-0 up when elusive doubles allowed Paul Livingstone to catch up. No danger the 5th leg was in the bag 21 darts later. Steve hit 14.29 tons in 5 legs making an entertaining come back. Well played Steve, 24.26 average.

Ross Smith won 3-1 on great form leaving opponent Ian Scattergood for dust in 3 out of the 4 legs. A Maximum in the last leg completed Ross's average at 25.09. Nice darts Ross

Gavin Forsyth won 3-1. Spectacular 2nd leg as Gavin didn't score below 100 for the entire leg. (100,100,100,100,101finish) 25.59 average. Great darts Gavin.

Clive Barden won 3-1 after going 1-0 down. The 2nd leg drew the match in just 13 darts. Legs 3 & 4 went Clive's way as opponent Mark Slater relinquished his chances. Clive's average 24.49. Well played Clive.

Robbie Turner beat Carl Green 3-0 in another entertaining game which saw Robbie demolish the second leg in 18 darts with a 152 finish. Super darts Robbie. Average 24.24.

Bob Fuller drew the short straw as Warwickshire's Man of the Match pulled off a 3-1 win. Bob's average 22.71.

Right from the 1st game Gary Ellis held MotM with a 27.83.

The penultimate game and the MotM challenge began. Vince Walsh with three 180s beat Dave Clarke 3-2. However, Vince was 2-0 down but stepped up a gear and pulled off an 11 darter in the 3rd leg leaving Dave not even half way through his 501 leg. The equalizer and winning leg fell into place 38 darts later. Vince's average 27.85. (just 0.02 more than Gary) Giving Vince pole position, alas, not for long.

Based on averages Paul Dawkins played Warwickshire's best B player, but, after just 52 darts it was game and the match 3-0 to Paul. Great darts, a 180 in the 2nd and 3rd leg. Paul made it look like a walk in the park. Average 28.90 and Man of the Match. Welcome back Paul.

Mens B 2 - 10 to Kent

Saturday closed with a  4 - 14 in Kent's favour

Ladies A

Wendy Wanstall drew formidable Lesley Newcombe. Losing 3-0 Wendy set each leg up for a comfortable finish but was denied the throw by Lesley who took all the opportunities as they arose. Unlucky Wendy. Average 18.51

Jackie Holman beat Caroline Pike 3-1. Missing out on a 21 darter to win the match 3-0 Jackie had to settle for the 4th leg to take the point. Jackie's average 17.26  Well played Jackie.

Marlene Badger beat Noreen Harris 3-0. Using the first leg as a warm up Marlene soon settled into normal form, stitching up the next two legs in just 45 darts. Average 18.79. Welcome aboard Marlene, Great darts.

Hayley Plume lost 3-0 to England International Clare Bywaters.  Not without chances, Hayley had 3 opportunities to be 2-1 up after 3 legs. Unlucky Hayley. Very respectable scoring. Average 19.28

Tricia Wright drew the World Champion and what a game. After 18 darts, Trina left 18, missing a total out shot of 93. Tricia used her dart advantage to the full and clinched the first leg with a clinical double 16 in 1 dart. In the second leg, Tricia's darts constantly brushed the wrong side of the treble twenty wire giving Trina the edge and the leg. The 3rd leg was like fireworks, Tricia kicked off with a ton, Trina threw a 140, Tricia chased back with a 125, Trina buried a ton, Tricia, another ton, Trina a 125 Trish crashed a 40, Trina a 60, Trish set up the finish with a 128 leaving double 4 as Trina went out on 20, 16, double top. Leg 4 and Trina with the throw, was displaying championship form, as she hit a 140, 135, 125 and finished 101 in the next 7darts leaving Tricia without a chance to finish her 76 remaining score. Tricia's average 26.84. Trina's average 28.83. Fabulous game to watch. A real battle of giants.

Sally Dowell beat Vikki Franklin in a close tussle that went to all 5 legs. It was all down to doubles as each throw kept the score lines tight. Pressure began to show in the last leg as the score from Vikki's last 9 darts took a dive, giving Sally the all important chance to pin the double 10, and hold Warwickshire Ladies 'A' to a draw. Average 19.59 and Lady of the Match. Well done Sal.

Ladies A 3 - 3

Men's A

Lee Guildford appeared to have drawn the short straw in Tommy Aldridge. 12 months ago Phil Wanstall upset Tommy by taking the 1st leg against him in 12 darts. 39 darts later Phil was shaking his hand 3-1 down. Tommy's average was 35.37. Memorable.     Tables turned up today as Tommy upset Lee by taking the 1st leg and Lee replied wining the next three. Some great darts from Lee including a 177 in the 3rd leg and two 140s in the final 16 dart leg. Well played Lee. Lee's average 26.65.

Andy Fordham lost 3-0 to, Kent giant killer, Dave Harris. Twice, Man of the Match against Kent, Dave had the darts and used the advantage to the maximum. Andy found some top form in the 3rd leg just missing double top for a 15 darter, but Dave Harris was not about to lower his guard or standard and wound up the match in his next throw. Andy's average 27.59. Unlucky Andy.

The quality of the darts seemed to be improving as each game came along and Gary Riley pulled out all the stops to beat his opponent, Martin Angel 3-2. Gary's average 28.63. Well played Gary.

Pip Blackwell had a corker of a game where opponent Tom Ryan never gave up the chase for the point until the very last dart went in. Winning 3-2 Pip was 2-1 down, until a 180 in the 4th leg assisted the leveller. The 5th leg produced five 140s, three of them from Pip, no time to relax, pip wound up the match in 15 darts, probably in the nick of time. Super darts Pip, average 29.79.

Phil Wanstall lost 3-2. Using all his dart advantage trying to beat opponent Tom McGlone, Phil just missed a last chance shot at a double before Tom polished of the final leg with his 17th dart. Average 25.52. Tight game, bad luck Phil.

Danny Russell's opponent had a 27.27 average but Danny made light work of his 3-0 win. producing top quality darts, a 30.06 average and a Man of the Match. Well played Danny, I had a feeling you'd have a great game. £££££££££££££££

Lee Mant won 3-0 against Dave Buckley. Dave had bare chances in the 1st and 3rd leg but Lee made sure that was all they were. Average 24.64 Well played Lee.

With a few unusually low scores, Graham Judge opened his game with a 180 and chased intermittently to emulate his first throw, eventually winning 3-2. Average 21.94.

Kirk Shepherd beat Mark Carter comfortably 3-0 hitting 11.60 tons in just 20 visits to the board. Nice darts Kirk. Average 25.91

Paul Wratten won 3-1 against Nigel Heyden burying the 1st leg in 15 darts. Nigel woke up and made Paul work hard for the point. In the final leg Nigel threw a ton, 140 and a 180, but failed to finish 53 for a 15 darter, allowing Paul to finish clinically in 2 more darts. Paul's average 25.16

Phil Songhurst beat Rob Hawker 3-2. The game alternated with the advantage giving Phil the 1st, 3rd and 5th legs.  Rob battled to take control in the 3rd leg hitting a 180,100,140 missing an 81 out shot for a 12 darter to break the advantage but Phil matched the 180 and was able to remove the opportunity cleanly. Phil's average 27.77  Rob Hawker's average 29.28. Great battle Phil, Well done.

Mick Norris beat Colin Laffar 3-1 in a fitting end to a successful weekend for Kent. Mick's average 24.76.
