COUNTY TEAM SHEETHOME TO LINCOLNSHIRE on the 22nd/23rd April 2006 Please remember that players MUST BE REGISTERED for consideration for selection.
Match report and highlights from the Lincolnshire match Sat/Sun 22nd & 23rd April 2006 Looking at the pre match stats, Kent are equal 3rd with Hampshire and only 1 point above Cambridgeshire. Lancashire in 2nd place (11 points above us) are playing Yorkshire. This could be to our advantage as we face, bottom of the league, Lincolnshire. We need to grab every opportunity to maximise our chances. At every level of premiership darts, the outcome of many of the games will be decided by an opportunity of chance. Game on ! ! Ladies B Lisa Behan halved her tonnage from last month but with an increase in consistency, Lisa lifted her average to 18.68 and won Kent's first match 3-1. Well played Lisa. (Lady of the match) Emma Little lost 3-1 Julie Scott lost 3-1 Jakki Ellis took advantage of the throw winning legs 1, 3 & 5 Ged Carney drew Norma Wilson. The two produced a strong game but a 19.30 average was not enough on this occasion. Ged lost 3-1 to Norma who had a 20.20 average. Tara Dean played well and was 2-1 up when Shelly Bontoft shifted up a gear to win each of the last two legs in 19 darts. Securing the point as well as the lady of the match for Lincolnshire. Ladies B 2 - 4 to Lincolnshire Men's B Paul McDine drawn 1st again, lost 3-1 in a close match. Paul's winning leg was a 15 darter with a 152 finish. Robbie Turner was unlucky to draw Lincolnshire's man of the match Neil Smith. Although Robbie had a chance in the 3rd leg, for a 102 finish Neil Smith won 3-0 with 14, 15 & 17 dart legs. Smith's average was a massive 32.67. (Not bad for a 'B' player !!! hmmm.) Mick Norris had a great game hitting a 180 in the course of his 3-1 win. great average, and at this stage was candidate for man of the match with a 29.98 Gary Ellis lost 3-0 playing Adam Beck, it was another tight clash for Gary that didn't go his way this time. Gary almost took the 1st leg with a 15 darter, narrowly missing bulls eye for an 86 finish but Adam had his own ideas and snatched the leg in the equal 15 darts with an 80 finish. 2nd leg saw chances for a 17/18 dart finish that melted the wrong side of the wire leaving Beck to steal again. The final leg disappeared in another 18 darts. One extra chance in each leg and it could easily have been 3-0 to Gary. Gavin Forsyth won 3-1 picking each leg up using 20 and 2 x 19 dart legs. Bob fuller lost 3-1 Clive Barden had a great game winning 3-1. Hitting a 180 included in 11.91 tons, Clive left his opponent for dust in the 3 winning legs. Paul Farnes's hit and miss game was more than adequate to take 3 straight legs. 3rd leg was a 15 darter and just as Paul hit top form, it was all over. Ross Smith lost 3-1. Losing the 3 legs he should have won and winning the one leg he should have lost. Ross hit two 180s during the 4 leg match. Phil Wanstall currently playing top darts had another great game securing all 3 legs in just 48 darts. Man of the match with a 31.31 average. Luke Ellis looked in trouble at 2-1 down as the 3rd leg disappeared from him after throwing just 12 darts. Opponent Dave Mountfield required just 40 in the 4th leg as Luke looked at 188 on his score sheet and fired in a brilliant pressure shot of 180 which did the trick as Mountfield was unable to close and Luke took his chance, first dart, next throw. 5th leg and Luke converted the last chance into a point. Russ Herbert hit 12.06 tons in his 5 leg game which went unusually against the throw in every leg. Unfortunately that wasn't in Russ's favour. Mens B 6 - 6 to Kent Saturday closed with a 8 - 10 in Lincolnshire's favour Ladies A Sally Dowell ended last months Ladies with a 3-0 win but this month, by way of a change, Sally started the Ladies off, with a 3-0 win. At one point Sally's average was 60.00. (yep, 180 with the first 3 darts of the match.) in contrast Sal's next three darts scored 3. Happily the second throw was a one off and Sal finished with a more than respectable 24.64 average. (without the 3 it would have been 25.91) Well played Sal. Wendy Wanstall lost 3-1 to Julie Pipe. Even game and Wendy went 1-0 up. Alas the next 3 legs, Pipe piped Wendy at the post. Tricia Wright won 3-0 against Vikkie Andrew, Vikkie's best leg was the 3rd when she managed to get down to a 158 finish but didn't get a shot at it. Tricia's best game of the season and a fitting end to her flawless record for Kent Ladies A. 27.83 Average. Great darts Tricia, Only 5 men in both the A & B, Home & Away teams, managed to win with a higher average. Sally Cridland won 3-0 in a solid game. Her opponent never got nearer than a 100 to finishing. 18.33 average. Well played Sal. Hayley Plume won 3-1 in a tight game where there was little room for errors as opponent Amanda Wilson was hot on her heels all the way averaging 20.60 to Hayley's 21.58. Good game. Jackie Holman lost 3-2 in what ended up as an evenly matched game, the averages were both 18 plus. Some unlucky darts that determined the outcome. Ladies A 4 - 2 to Kent Mens A Scot Marsh was unlucky to lose his first game in the A side, 3-2 as he battled relentlessly through 5 legs. Scott's average was 27.95 his opponent's 26.73. Scott's tonnage was 13.25 including a 180 his opponent's just 7.82. I don't know how he lost, I added up the scores twice, thinking Scott must have played 601. Bad luck chap. Lee Guildford won 3-0 against evenly matched Marty Richards. Phil Songhurst won 3-1 after going down 1-0, nice recovery Phil. Lee Mant played Dean Baker who started like a train but couldn't stop at the station. Dean hit 491 in 12 darts but missed the 10 finish for a 13, 14 or 15 dart leg. Lee with the dart advantage didn't give Dean another shot. The match continued following the precedence set, with each leg going with the dart throw. Great game to watch with only 0.09 difference in the final averages. Lee winning 3-2 Phil Blackwell hit two 180s as he winged his way to a convincing 3-1 win. Graham Judge drew Neil Smith, Saturday's man of the match (32.67). Graham won the 1st leg. 2nd leg went to Neil in 17 darts and Graham returned the compliment and took the 3rd in 17 darts as well. The 4th leg appeared to be a tribute to the London Marathon (that took place earlier that morning). 33 darts later Neil Smith still required double one. At this point Graham was able to demonstrate how to finish on the most elusive double of the board and popped in a double one of his own to win 3-1. Kirk Shepherd drew Mick Capewell who most definitely meant business. Leaving 32 after 15 darts Capewell regretted missing his chance as Kirk stepped in and against the throw won the 1st leg in 18 darts. Kirk's turn for regret, missing the bullseye to finish in 18 darts as Mick stepped in against the throw and won the 2nd leg. Back to Mick as a 100 required ended in 10 left giving Kirk another steal against the throw in 16 darts. Fourth leg and no chances for Kirk this time as Capewell sank his 501 in 14 darts. Fifth and final leg and Capewell opens up with two 140s. After 12 darts each, Mick requires 100 and Kirk requires 108, Mick to throw, and produces a 60 leaving double top, and with the standard displayed so far we all knew that given a chance he's unlikely to miss. Kirk's 1st dart seeks out treble twenty and finds it. Kirk stands back and absorbs the urgency for precision. Next dart finds the 16. Again Kirk steps back to be sure a hasty throw is not wasted, a step to the refreshment table for water places a sinister gap between the 2nd & final dart. He steps up to the oche aims with deadly precision and it's all over. 3-2 win for Kirk and Mick Capewell loses with a 30.11 average. Man of the match and match of the day. Well played Kirk. Paul Wratten won 3-1. Paul hit a 180 in his 10.20 tons Gary Riley won 3-0 finding a good steady pace and sticking to it. Danny Russell was experiencing rough justice as he lost 3-1 to Eddie Lovely (Lincs man of the match). In the 4th leg Danny hit three tons in a row and then a 140 and never got another shot. Unlucky Dan, great effort, Danny's average was 29.95. Phil Wanstall up from the B side had no problem standing in for Bob Linton who couldn't make the game after failing a self assessed fitness test. Philling his shoes admirably our man of the match from Saturday won 3-1 with time to spare. Well played Phil and scoring 2 points for Kent. Vince Walsh lost 3-1 Men's A 9 - 3 Kent 21 Lincolnshire 15 Superb match and the result we had hoped for, unfortunately Yorkshire didn't manage beat Lancashire and Hampshire thrashed Staffordshire. So we finish a respectable 4th. I am sure we can make the Premiership our permanent playing field and look forward to next season's fresh challenges. Well done to everyone.
