Match report and highlights from the Cheshire match Sat/Sun 1st & 2nd April 2006

Looking at the pre match stats Cheshire are 15 points behind us. Our main objective this weekend is to capitalise and try to catch up with Lancashire & Hampshire who are 14 and 16 points above us respectively. Sitting equal 4th with Cambridgeshire and only 8 points above Staffordshire we can't afford to be complacent. However, Cheshire wont be giving any points away with players like Tony O'Shea, Darryl Fitton, Vijay Kumar, Tony Eccles and Jane Stubbs in their formidable line up.

Game on ! !

Ladies B

Emma Little had a good start beating Linda Sullivan 3-1.

Ged Carney drew Julie Routledge who last month won lady of the match with a 22.43 ave. Ged always looked the strongest player and proved it with a 3-0 win. Scoring 7.29 tons in 3 legs and closing the final leg in 18 darts with a very nice 108 finish. Well played Ged you converted a Cheshire lady of the match to a Kent Lady of the match.

Lisa Behan played well, hitting 7.55 tons in 4 legs and held an 18.29 average but elusive doubles saw the game end 3-1 down.

Tara Dean swapped fortunes during this 5 leg match with Cally Thomas as the game twisted and turned with the dart advantage. At 2-2 Cally had the advantage and the upper hand in reaching a double first, but unable to convert Tara grabbed the opportunity and brought another point to Kent.

Julie Scott had probably her best game for Kent so far winning 3-0 relatively comfortably.

Jakki Ellis returned to play Jill Jodrill, Cheshire's Captain and subsequently Lady of the match. Tight game and ended evenly matched, Jakki belted in 472 in 12 darts to save the match in the 4th leg but to no avail as her darts resisted the closing double.

Ladies B 2 - 4 to Kent

Men's B

Paul McDine had a great game taking his first leg in 17 darts.  Hitting 8.75 tons including a 180 in his 3-0 win.

Paul Farnes won 3-1 in an evenly fought battle. The 3rd leg in 18 darts ended with a nice 100 finish.

Luke Ellis had a tough game for his debut for Kent. Luke drew (look at me) Mark Jodrill.  Luke won the 2nd leg to even the score line but 12.25 tons and 2 180s, in 4 legs, was a pace set by Jodrill that subsequently proved uncatchable. Mark Jodrill claimed man of the match with a 29.24 ave. and a 3-1 win.

Clive Barden visiting the B side found some old form, firing 13.76 tons including a 180 into his 3-1 win. The 4th leg went 100, 100, 100, 100 and 101 finish. Well played Clive.

Ross Smith after a slow start, and 1-0 down, kicked into gear and won 3-1 producing a 180 and a 17 dart final leg.

Phil Wanstall hit a 180 in his 3-2 win. and took out the first leg in just 14 darts.

Russ Herbert lost 3-0 to Brian Bird who played well enough to attain a 28.36 average.

Scott Marsh won 3-0 going from strength to strength. 9.66 tons. 3rd leg in 14 darts. Man of the Match with a 29.47 (same ave. as Phil Songhurst last month) Well played Scott keep it up.

Mick Norris looked quite comfortable as he took a 3-0 victory from Mark Tirrell in 56 darts.

Bob Fuller had a good game winning 3-1 whisking the 4th leg away with a 15 darter.

Robbie Turner had bad luck, losing 3-2,  hitting 12.91 tons on the way, Andy Latham pipped him at the post in the final leg.

Gary Ellis played Alan Perkins and it was a tight clash indeed. 27.10 tons pelted the board as these two battled away. Great first leg finish as Gary hit single one followed by 25 and Bull for a 76 out shot. 2nd leg to Gary as he narrowly missed double 10 for a 140 finish but clinched it next throw. Next 2 legs went to Perkins. Gary produced a 180 in the 1st throw of the final leg and the finish came 14 darts later, leaving Perkins on Double Top but no opportunity to attempt it. Great game to watch.

Mens B 3 - 9 to Kent

Saturday closed with a  5 - 13 in Kent's favour

Ladies A

Hayley Plume, with the dart advantage, won the 1st leg in 25 darts leaving her opponent, Dianne Clark on 161. 2nd leg saw the advantage, and the leg, swap to Cheshire.  The 3rd leg like the 1st went to Hayley in just 21darts. The 4th leg saw Dianne start with 100 and Hayley following with a 41, setting all the hallmarks for this leg to go to Cheshire, but a sequence of 4 consecutive tons changed the predictive course and Hayley clinched the match 3-1 with a 20.52 average.

Wendy Wanstall lost 3-1 to Lady of the match Claire Stainsby.

Sally Cridland drew Jane Stubbs the reigning National Singles Winner of 2005. Sally hit a 180 in the 2nd leg and stayed cool to take the match in three straight legs. Great win, great point, nice scalp. Well played Sal.

Tricia Wright won 3-0 taking the 1st leg with ease and enjoying extra time on the 2nd leg, ending the match on a more spectacular 18 darts leg  With a 20.88 average Tricia picks ups Lady of the Match. Well played Tricia.

Jackie Holman had a tough game, scoring 8.57 tons and coming back from 1-0 down to win 3-2 taking the last leg in 21 darts.

Sally Dowell drew last months lady of the match Debbie Stanley, the games were close but Sally checked out when it counted and won 3-0 with a 19.52ave. Nice ending to the Ladies A.

Ladies A 1 - 5 to Kent

Mens A

Graham Judge drew M.C. host Andy Boulton. Andy was good fun during the weekend with corny and cheeky jokes making great entertainment between the darts matches. For some reason Andy didn't give me the impression that he could be a serious dart player, how wrong was I ??  Graham had the darts and made vital use of the advantage. 1st leg Graham hit a 180 which assisted his 17 dart finish. 2nd leg was only 15 darts for Graham as Andy checked out in 16, to show everyone he was not a joker on the oche. Graham fired up for the 3rd leg, hit another 180, and wrapped it up in just 14 darts.  Leg four and Graham once again only gets 15 darts before Andy has fought back to level the game 2-2. Pressure was the villain in the last leg for Andy Boulton as he left 88 after 12 darts against Graham's 216.  Graham knocked a ton off next throw and Andy went 20, 18 bull but hit the 25, Graham hit 70 leaving 46, Andy hit 17 and missed double 4 twice. Can you feel the tension?? knowing this was Graham's last chance Graham hit the single ten and went wrong side of the double 18 wire, noooooooooo, after such a clinical game so far, would you believe Andy's last throw at the board was a no score. In one dart, there was no more chances for for the funny man who wasn't laughing now.

Vince Walsh drew Tony O'Shea who demonstrated his professionalism although Vince had him thinking twice as he whisked the 2nd leg away leaving the Silverback still on 160. In the 3rd & 4th legs Tony pelted 6.8 tons and left little doubt about his expertise. Vince losing 3-1

Lee Guildford in a tight evenly matched game won 3-0 returning this month to the A side.

Lee Mant drew Darryl Fitton and in my eyes played the best darts of the weekend. An awesome game saw Darryl Fitton so close to losing 3-1 it hurts to think about it. The throw and dart advantage was in Darryl's favour, had it not been I would be writing a different result.  Lee hit 13.85 tons including a 180 and had the highest average of the entire weekend. Lee, unlucky to lose, 3-2 with a 30.00 average.

Phil Blackwell drew Jed Harris, last month's, (B team), man of the match with a 28.83.  Phil aware he had his work cut out, dug deep and pulled a 180 out of the bag right from the off. Staying in command for the remainder of the match Phil won 3-0 with a 27.83 ave. Well played Phil.

Gavin Forsyth lost 3-2 in a game of highs and lows producing two 180s in the course of 5 legs.

Kirk Shepherd played Cheshire's Stuart Kellett. A formidable opponent Stuart won a recent Open K.O. and last month was man of the match with a 31.98 average. Yet another fantastic game of darts, producing 27.93 tons including three 180s between them. Kirk used the darts throw advantage to maximise his opportunities which came to fruition giving Kirk the the point with a 3-2 win. It was a very close match and I'm sure we will all be hearing a lot more from this young dart player. Kirk's average 28.82 Stuart's average 29.73. Well played Kirk.

Danny Russell drew Saturday's Man of the match (look at me) Mark Jodrill. With similar style Mark with the darts advantage won the 1st leg and proceeded to taunt Kent supporters with a "large it" action which only fired up extra support for Danny. The 2nd leg to rapturous applause and cheers went to Danny in 17 darts. Leg 3 switched to Mark for another 17 dart leg prompting another "look how good I am" exhibition. Danny rewarded our extra support by levelling the match 2-2 with a 15darter and 120 finish.   Against the darts  Danny finished the match in yet another 17 darter. The biggest cheer of the weekend raised the roof at the end of a lesson that left Jodrill still requiring 139.

Phil Songhurst was evenly matched and threw no more than 18 darts in each of the 4 legs of this match. Winning 3-1, this was another entertaining match with over 22 tons between them.

Bob Linton drew Tony Eccles. Bob played a brilliant game that left Tony Eccles powerless to reply. 3-0 win for Bob and a spokesperson for Cheshire said they couldn't remember Tony ever losing 3-0 before. Great darts Bob, and well deserved Man of the Match. 29.47ave (same as Scott yesterday)

Gary Riley lost 3-0 to Vijay Kumar who swept Cheshire's man of the match award.

Paul Wratten lost 3-0 to Ian white who extracted both the 1st & 3rd leg in just 16 darts.

Men's A 6 - 6

Cheshire  12   Kent 24

Very proud, great darts, great result.  Now we do have something to play for in our last match. Lets keep it going.
